Celebrate Star Wars Day With This Adorable D-O Droid Cookie Recipe!

With Star Wars Day (“May the 4th” be with you, everyone!) fast approaching, it’s time to start planning your celebration of a galaxy far, far away.We’re here with an adorable D-O cookie recipe that will help you get into the spirit of the Rebellion!

D-O, who appeared in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, immediately stole Star Wars fans’ hearts as the adorable droid who ultimately befriends BB-8 and helps Finn, Poe, and Rey on their quest to defeat Emperor Palpatine once and for all.

Find the full list of ingredients and instructions for these super cute D-O droid cookies below! This recipe is for a single Star Wars cookie, so you’ll need to gather additional ingredients if you want to feed a crowd for a Star Wars movie marathon on May 4.

What You Need:

  • 1 round sandwich cookie
  • 1 sugar cone
  • 1 pretzel stick
  • 1 cup white candy melts, melted
  • 1 Tbsp black candy melts
  • 1 black licorice twist
  • 1/4 cup black royal icing, in piping bag fitted with #3 tip
  • 6 small red dot sprinkles
  • 1/4 cup white frosting
  • 1/4 cup green royal icing, in piping bag fitted with #3 tip
  • Black edible marker
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup cut-out cookie dough

What You Do:

Coat 1 sandwich cookie in white candy melts and allow to dry. Use a serrated knife to cut two inches off of the end of a sugar cone. Cut a 1/4-inch off of the tip. Coat the middle cut cone piece in white candy melts and allow to dry.

Cut a 1/2-inch off of a pretzel stick. Coat it in white candy melts and allow to dry. Spoon 2 Tbsp of the white melts into a small bowl, then mix in the black candy melts to create gray. Coat the rest of pretzel in this gray candy melt mixture and allow to dry.

Cut a 1/4-inch piece off from the length of a licorice twist. To create D-O’s antenna, pipe out 3 one-inch long strands of black royal icing onto parchment paper. To create his lights, pipe out a one-inch thick line of black royal icing onto parchment paper. Attach 6 small red dot sprinkles as lights. Allow to dry.

Fill the dipped cone piece with white frosting. Insert three of the black royal icing strands into the white frosting as antenna. Put 2 Tbsp of green royal icing in a small bowl. Mix in 1 tsp of water. Dip the narrow end of the cone in the icing and allow to dry.

Create D-O’s wheel details on the dipped cookie with green icing, black icing and edible black marker. Allow to dry. Brush cocoa powder spots onto different areas of D-O’s cone head and wheel to create a rustic, worn look.

Roll out the cookie dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out a large three-inch round, a 1/2-inch by 1/4-inch rectangle and a small plant shape from the dough. Bake at 350F until a light golden brown, then cool.

Mix any remaining white frosting with 2 tsp of cocoa powder to create tan colored frosting. Spread this onto the three-inch round cookie. Dip the rectangle in white candy melts and allow to dry. Mix 1 tsp of cocoa powder into the thinned green royal icing from Step 4. Dip the front of plant cookie in this icing, then allow to dry.

Upright, place the decorated sandwich cookie onto the large frosted cookie like a wheel. Apply small dabs of any remaining white candy melts to build D-O from the bottom up. Place the gray pretzel piece on last. Place the plant cookie to the side of D-O. Crumble any undipped sugar cone to create “sand pebbles” for sprinkling around the plant cookie.

Beep-beep! You’re done! All that’s left to do is enjoy your D-O treat. If you love being creative in the kitchen, you could even try to use this basic droid cookie recipe to create other Star Wars droid shapes. R2-D2 and C-3PO would also look adorable in cookie form!

Celebrate Star Wars Day on Disney+

The Walt Disney Company is getting into the spirit of Star Wars Day this year by adding lots of great Star Wars content to Disney+ on May 4th!

Fans will be able to stream all nine Star Wars movies in the Skywalker saga, from Episode I: A New Hope to Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker. We can’t wait to binge watch the adventures of Princess Leia, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and the rest of the Star Wars characters.

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will also be added to the Disney streaming platform on May 4. This new original Disney+ series will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at how Din Djarin, Baby Yoda, and The Mandalorian storyline were brought to life.

Finally, the last episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will air on Star Wars 2020, bringing George Lucas’s involvement with his incredible Star Wars universe to a close.
