The 12 Best Stowe Restaurants

Piecasso

1899 Mountain Rd // (802) 253-4411

What started as a pizzeria over fifty years ago was built on the belief that more than making pizza, they were making memories.

Eating at Piecasso is truly a memorable experience because Piecasso is much more than just a pizzeria; it’s a refuge from the norm.

By leaning on the founder’s Sicilian heritage, Chef Johnathan Nelson creates delectable Italian dishes using locally sourced ingredients.

Although pizza and pasta are featured prominently on the menu, so are several all-American comfort foods like burgers and wings. Most entrees and pizzas can be made gluten-free, and there are also vegan and vegetarian items on the menu.

When I stopped in for lunch, I ordered the homemade black bean sweet potato burger, a Piecasso original. It was the perfect lunch-size portion, served with a choice of fries or side salad.

My advice is to skip the fries and opt for a side of Insalata Mista salad, chock full of grape tomatoes, carrots, red onion, and kalamata olives atop a bed of mixed greens, with a homemade balsamic that is outstanding.

If you’re craving something exceptional, be sure to order the pan-roasted East Coast Halibut.

Seared perfectly and served atop a butternut squash puree, with wilted spinach, walnuts, and an orange-scallion butter sauce that is simply divine, it’s a must-try for any seafood fan.

When you’re looking for a step away from the ordinary, Piecasso easily fits the bill. If you want the choice of pizza or all-American classics, this is a must-try of the best Stowe restaurants.

Doc Ponds

294 Mountain Rd, Stowe, VT 05672, United States // +18027606066

Strolling into Doc Ponds on a breezy afternoon in Stowe, VT, was like finding an oasis of cool vibes and warmth.

This place, with its effortlessly modern feel, complete with a fireplace to ward off the Vermont chill and a patio that beckoned for lazy afternoon lounging, was inviting from the get-go.

It wasn’t just the physical space that set the mood; it was the promise of culinary delights paired with an array of rotating craft brews that truly piqued my curiosity.

Right off the bat, the jalapeno poppers made an impression. These weren’t your garden-variety poppers; they were a culinary high note, packing a punch of flavor that resonated with every bite.

And then there were the fries – a seemingly simple side that achieved a culinary balance rarely seen, being both impeccably crispy and delightfully fluffy inside.

The burger and homemade soup followed suit, each dish reinforcing the fact that Doc Ponds was playing in a league of its own when it came to flavor.

The discovery of the Hen of the Woods pasta was serendipitous. Featuring locally foraged wild mushrooms, this dish celebrated Vermont’s bountiful landscape. Its rich and earthy flavor made it a dining high point I still reminisce about.

The beer selection, proudly local, offered a symphony of flavors that complemented the meal beautifully.

Opting for a Pink ‘n Pale, I found myself enchanted by its notes of grapefruit – a perfect accompaniment to the robust flavors of my meal.

But it wasn’t just the food and drink that made Doc Ponds stand out. The vibe here was palpable; a blend of hip aesthetics and good tunes created an ambiance that was both energizing and comforting.

And amid the vibrant energy, there was an underlying warmth, perhaps best symbolized by the cozy fireplace and the welcoming smiles that greeted me.

Venturing beyond the culinary, I was delighted to find a little gift shop on-site. It offered an array of charming merchandise that was as unique and thoughtful as the restaurant itself.

It’s a place where the experience lingered, not just through the flavors savored but through the mementos that guests could take home.

Heed a piece of friendly advice: Doc Ponds is a jewel in Stowe’s crown, and its allure means it’s often bustling with eager patrons.

A call ahead to get on the waitlist is a wise move, sparing you the wait and ensuring your spot in this culinary haven.

For anyone looking to savor the essence of Stowe through its flavors and vibes, Doc Ponds is a destination that promises not just a meal, but an experience to remember.

Healthy variations, including The Veggie Monster and the Red Curry crepe, are nutritious and filling. I’ve had both, but I can’t choose a favorite.

Paired with a mimosa or a Bloody Mary, it’s the perfect way to start your day.

During my last visit, I opted for the blueberry crisp, which was practically irresistible. Shh, don’t tell mom that it comes served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top! Complete indulgence!

Suppose you’re not a fan of breakfast all day, well, no worries! Salads, burgers, paninis, and munchies like sweet potato fries and poutine are also on the menu, along with a complete list of beer, wine, and co*cktails.

Yes, it’s okay to have a co*cktail here with breakfast if you so choose – it’s Vermont!

If you’re looking for the perfect breakfast spot in Stowe, The Skinny Pancake is a total crowd-pleaser for sure.

Cork Restaurant and Natural Wine Shop

35 School St, Stowe, VT 05672, United States // +18027606143

Cork is quaint retreat that felt like stepping into a warmly lit, welcoming dream. The setting was disarmingly charming—a blend of modernity and coziness that felt like it had been designed just for me.

The ambiance was a comforting whisper against the backdrop of Stowe’s scenic beauty, offering a calming respite from the crisp outside air.

Parking was a breeze, a simple choice between the street or a nearby lot, hinting at the ease of the experience to come.

Walking in, the space unfolded in a way that was both beautiful and understated, with clean lines and a simplicity that belied the richness of the experiences it housed.

Diving into the heart of Cork, the wine list was a testament to the adventurous spirit of natural winemaking.

It was a curated selection of stories, each bottle a narrative of its origin, echoing the care and dedication of family-run vineyards.

This wasn’t just a wine tasting; it was an exploratory journey into the ethos of natural vino, guided by an expert staff whose passion for their selections was as palpable as the warmth of the room.

The culinary journey was equally captivating. The gnocchi, a dish I’ve critiqued more times than I can count, reached new heights of perfection.

Each bite was a delicate balance of texture and flavor, enveloped in a sauce that felt like a secret shared between friends.

The smoked salmon chowder followed, shattering my benchmarks for what soup could be—an amalgam of comfort, flavor, and culinary skill that I’m convinced has spoiled me for future chowders.

But what truly marked the evening was the intangible quality of Cork itself. It wasn’t just the food, the wine, or the setting—it was the feeling of being exactly where I needed to be.

In a world that often feels rushed and impersonal, Cork offered a pause, a breath, a moment to savor not just the exquisite food and wine but the joy of being present.

As I left, the streets of Stowe felt a little quieter, a little more like home.

Cork wasn’t just a stop on my journey; it had become a part of my story—a reminder of the beauty of slowing down and appreciating the artistry in a well-crafted dish, the story in a bottle of wine, and the peace in a perfectly curated space.

In the end, Cork Restaurant and Natural Wine Shop was more than a dining experience; it was a lesson in the beauty of the moment, a memory crafted not just from the palette but from the heart.

And as I walked away, I knew it was a lesson I would carry with me, long after the flavors faded.

Idletyme Brewing Company

1859 Mountain Road // (802) 253-4765

Offering just about everything you could want in a dining experience, Idletyme Brewing delivers the total package.

For delicious food, paired with brewed-on-site beer, along with a cozy and family-friendly atmosphere, Idletyme will have you wanting to come back for more.

We started with the Fried Brussels Sprouts, drizzled with balsamic and Parmesan, which were delectable and more than enough to share.

The Pumpkin Spice Salad was like a warm autumn hug in a bowl, while the Butternut Squash Ravioli was a joy with maple cream sauce and slivered almonds.

When dining at a brewery, it feels almost a requirement to try one of their specialty brews. We chose the Pink ‘n Pale, an American-style pale ale fermented with pink grapefruit, and the Oatmeal Stout, a full-bodied stout with notes of chocolate and coffee. I was such a fan of the Pink ‘n Pale that I took home a four-pack, sold right on site.

Idletyme is much more than your average pub-food stop. If you’re looking for a place where the whole family can enjoy a quick bite, a leisurely dinner, or just a great craft brew, make sure to try one of the best Stowe restaurants.

Tipsy Trout

7412 Mountain Rd, Stowe, VT 05672, United States // +18027604735

As the Vermont sun dipped behind the mountains, painting the sky in strokes of pink and gold, our last night at the resort called for something special, something memorable.

That’s how we found ourselves at the doorstep of Tipsy Trout, a name that hinted at whimsy but promised an epicurean journey.

The vibe was an instant hit of modern chic blended with the kind of comfort that puts you at ease.

The space whispered of evenings spent in laughter and culinary delight, urging us to settle into a cozy booth with a panoramic view of the dusky mountainside.

It was clear: this was where our Stowe escapade would draw to a close, not with a whisper, but a culinary bang.

The wine list was a playful challenge, a mix of high-end labels and approachable glasses that beckoned even the most moderate of wine enthusiasts to indulge. It was a prelude to the symphony of flavors that awaited.

First came the trout, a masterpiece on a plate that made it clear why the restaurant bore its name.

This wasn’t just fish; this was a love letter to the sea, prepared with a reverence that could only be described as delicious.

Then, the raw bar—a showcase of the ocean’s bounty, each bite a high note of fresh, unparalleled quality.

But what truly stole the show was the clam chowder, a dish that carried the essence of the sea in every spoonful, and the Hake, a sublime encounter that melded simplicity with sophistication.

Each dish was a narrative, a story of flavors, textures, and culinary wizardry that unfolded with each bite.

Dining at Tipsy Trout transcended the act of eating. It was a celebration of the sea, of skill, and of the unexpected joy of finding such a treasure in Vermont.

The service, impeccable in its balance of attentiveness and discretion, wove itself seamlessly into the fabric of our evening, making every moment feel exclusive, every dish a personal triumph.

As the night wore on and the plates cleared, the realization dawned—Tipsy Trout was not just a meal.

It was an experience, a final night in Stowe that encapsulated the adventure, the beauty, and the culinary excellence of a place far removed from the sea yet so profoundly connected through its flavors.

Give this spot a try, you won’t regret it!

Ranch Camp

311 Mountain Road // (802) 253-2753

They had me from the first time I saw their sign, “Ranch Camp – Bikes, Beer, and Burritos.” I mean, who wouldn’t want to stop in and see what kind of cool spot combines these three? We weren’t disappointed.

Ranch Camp is Stowe’s go-to mountain bike shop, conveniently located trail-side. Not only can you buy a bike, fix a bike, or demo a bike here, if you’re out on the trails (either biking or hiking), you can stop off to rehydrate and refuel, and by that – I mean grab a great bite to eat and an ice-cold beer at one of the best Stowe restaurants!

The 12 Best Stowe Restaurants | Must-Try Restaurants In Stowe, Vermont, Updated March 2024 (9)

There’s no requirement to be a mountain biker or hike to Ranch Camp; everyone is welcome. Located under the same roof as their full-service bike shop, Ranch Camp offers a great menu with so much more than burritos. Chef Joe Rock creates the most fantastic food, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

We stopped by at lunchtime and opted to share two small plates, the vegan nachos, and the falafel nuggets. It was a tough choice because, honestly, I wanted to try almost everything on the menu.

The 12 Best Stowe Restaurants | Must-Try Restaurants In Stowe, Vermont, Updated March 2024 (10)

The nachos were delicious and plentiful, served with tri-colored tortilla chips – plenty enough to share. The falafel was moist and flavorful, with house-made sesame chili tzatziki sauce that you’ll want to take home by the gallon!

Sandwiches, power bowls, salads, dinner bowls, and desserts round out the impressive menu. The little ones have an equally impressive selection of kid-friendly delights.

If at all possible, save room for dessert. You’ll have a tough time deciding between the Chocolate Lava Cake (which is gloriously gluten-free) and the Peanut Butter Mousse Landslide, piled high on a chocolate brownie with peanut butter ganache.

For a totally unique experience for Mexican dining in Stowe, stop by for lunch, dinner, or just a quick bite. Don’t forget to take a look around the bike shop; it may just inspire you to hit the trails, too!

The Round Hearth Cafe and Market Place

39 Edson Hill Rd, Stowe, VT 05672, United States // +18022537223

Rumors of this place’s charm had traveled the wind, but nothing prepared me for the embrace of warmth that awaited inside.

The air inside was a tapestry of aromas—coffee, baked delights, and whispers of meals crafted with love.

The service sparkled with excellence, embodying the kind of attentiveness that makes you feel both valued and at home.

But what truly set this cafe apart was its atmosphere—a blend of rustic charm and a comforting, almost palpable sense of welcome that beckoned you to stay a while longer.

Adding to its allure was the intriguing mention of rooms for rent upstairs, each promised at rates that spoke of an era when travel was as much about the journey as the destination.

The very thought of waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee below was enticing, to say the least.

Seated with a view that framed the mountains, I found myself pondering the choice between a black bean sandwich and a Buffalo chicken sandwich.

Each, I was told, was a favorite among visitors and locals alike. Deciding to follow where intuition led, I chose both.

The 12 Best Stowe Restaurants | Must-Try Restaurants In Stowe, Vermont, Updated March 2024 (12)

The decision was rewarded with flavors that felt both refreshing and reassuringly familiar, a reminder of the simple pleasures that dining out should always be.

Wandering around the cafe, I discovered it was also a treasure trove of finds that ranged from the quaint to the quirky, each item with a story begging to be told. It was clear: every corner of this cafe was curated with love and an eye for delight.

The fairness of the prices was another pleasant surprise, offering satisfaction that was as much about the value as it was about the flavors.

The staff, with their warm welcomes and helpful nature, only added to the cafe’s charm, making every visitor feel like a part of The Round Hearth family.

But perhaps the most enchanting aspect of The Round Hearth Cafe was its outdoor dining area, offering views of the surrounding mountains that could steal your breath away.

Paired with their amazing coffee and the perfect vibes it exuded, the cafe wasn’t just a place to eat; it was a place to connect— with the food, the people, and the stunning Vermont landscape.

Would I recommend The Round Hearth Cafe and Marketplace? Without a moment’s hesitation. It’s a sanctuary for those who seek the solace of a mountain view, the warmth of a friendly greeting, and the simple joy of a meal prepared with care.

The Cliff House Restaurant

311 Mountain Rd // (802) 253-3665

When you come to Vermont, you quickly find that mountain views are a way of life.

And if you want to dine while experiencing the most unparalleled views in all of Vermont, there’s just one catch. You have to ride the gondola to the top of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s tallest mountain.

Not to worry; the fifteen-minute leisurely ride to the top is aboard an enclosed gondola car that takes you right to the restaurant situated atop the mountain.

And trust me when I say the views through the floor-to-ceiling windows are beyond compare. The menu here is constantly rotating, as chefs use the freshest seasonal ingredients to create American-inspired cuisine.

During our visit, the Pan-Seared Scallops with saffron risotto was divine. And the New England-style Corn Chowder was thick, creamy, and perfectly piping hot.

A hand-selected wine menu, along with an impressive list of co*cktails, rounds out this dining adventure. If you want fine dining in Stowe, this is one of the best Stowe restaurants for that!

Although the Cliff House is a little pricy, especially when you consider adding the cost of the ticket for a round-trip gondola ride, dining here is genuinely an extraordinary experience.

Be sure to call ahead for reservations. Also, due to the restaurant’s popularity, tables can only be occupied for a total of sixty minutes. But seriously, don’t let this deter you. You really should try Cliff House, one of the best Stowe restaurants.

Alpine Hall

7412 Mountain Rd, Stowe, VT 05672, United States // +18027604735

Located within the breathtaking tapestry of the Vermont landscape, this restaurant stood as a beacon of gastronomic delight, its charm as inviting as the fresh mountain air.

From the first step inside, Alpine embraced me with an ambiance that was nothing short of enchanting.

Bathed in natural light, the space unfolded like a well-kept secret, revealing an interior that was both beautiful and warmly welcoming.

Its proximity to the Over Easy gondola hinted at the adventures that awaited beyond its culinary confines, yet within these walls, the promise of an unforgettable dining experience beckoned.

My adventure began with a dish that was as simple as it was sublime: calamari. But this was no ordinary calamari; it was a declaration of Alpine Hall’s culinary ethos, where even the simplest dishes were elevated to art.

The journey continued with a shared endeavor into the heart of Alpine Hall’s menu—the mushroom pasta and steak frites.

Each was a revelation, the pasta a delicate dance of earthy flavors and textures, the steak frites a bold statement of simplicity perfected. These were dishes not just to be eaten, but to be remembered, shared stories on a plate.

At the bar, magic happened. co*cktails were not merely poured; they were conjured, each a blend of precision and imagination.

With each sip, the divine became tangible, and the evening slipped into a realm of taste and delight I had not thought possible.

Luck was our companion that night, granting us a table without prior claim. Yet, what we found at Alpine was more than luck could ever promise.

It was a feast for the senses, an impeccable service that wrapped around us like a warm embrace.

As I reflect on the evening, I realize Alpine Hall’s menu, described by some as plain and simple, was in fact a canvas—each dish a stroke of culinary genius that awaited the discerning palate.

To those wandering through Stowe, looking for a sign, let Alpine Hall be your north star. Here, nestled close to the sky, every meal is a testament to the beauty of dining, every moment an invitation to explore the depths of flavor and the heights of culinary craftsmanship.

It is a destination to experience, a corner of Stowe where every bite is a journey, and every moment is a treasure waiting to be discovered.

Sushi Yoshi

1128 Mountain Rd // (802) 253-4135

From the moment I walked into Sushi Yoshi, I knew I had found a special place. Part Japanese sushi house, part Chinese gourmet hibachi steakhouse, this family-friendly restaurant in Stowe offers an outstanding array of options.

Take your time looking through the expansive menu of almost any sushi-style known to man, along with Asian fusion, tempura, Japanese dinner creations, soups, and salads. Need some help deciding?

The friendly staff is super knowledgeable and eager to help you pinpoint just what to try.

We started with the clear soup, a broth with mushrooms and scallions, and it was undeniably the best we had ever had.

Next up, we indulged in the Sashimi Martini, not a drink but rather a fantastic blend of tuna, salmon, sea bass, mango, with a house-made yuzu citrus sauce served elegantly in a martini glass.

We experimented with several sushi roll combinations, each one a masterpiece and a delight to devour.

While we didn’t opt for the Japanese hibachi experience, we were seated close enough to enjoy the show. As skilled chefs tossed knives and food about, fire emanated from the searing hot grill as the faces of those eagerly awaiting their creations lit up with joy.

While reservations are not necessary to grab a table, you must reserve a hibachi experience ahead of time. For a taste of the Orient, this is one of the best Stowe restaurants.

Von Trapp Brewery Bierhall Restaurant

1333 Luce Hill Road // (802) 253-5750

The legendary von Trappe Family, whose story was made famous in the musical “The Sound of Music,” emigrated to the United States and landed in Stowe, Vermont, in 1942.

The Baron and Maria’s youngest son, Johannes, who still lives here to this day, dreamt of bringing Austrian-style beer to an otherwise crowded craft beer scene in Vermont. After brewing beer for a few years, the Bierhall Restaurant was born.

You can’t help but be awe-inspired at the setting, with mountain views in all directions. No wonder it’s one of the best Stowe restaurants.

The massive wood-beamed building, modeled after Austrian architecture, has a center bar with seating on three sides and indoor and outdoor dining spaces.

As their menu states, “A Little of Austria, a Lot of Vermont!” is the Bierhall Restaurant theme. We started with the Brussels Sprouts Fritters with horseradish yogurt sauce and balsamic reduction.

The plate only had five small patties, and I wished it had more, as they were incredible!

Because Austrian-style beer was new to us, we opted for a flight to start our taste-testing. We paired the flight with another great appetizer, the Three Dips, and found the smoked trout dip to be out of this world.

Although each of the pours was quite good, I chose the Dunkel for my pint, with its creamy toffee flavor. It has become a new favorite of mine.

Wine on tap, hard cider, and soft drinks are also available.

If you are a schnitzel or bratwurst fan, you are in for a treat – they are featured prominently on the menu. Sandwiches, salads, and side dishes round out the menu with options for vegans and vegetarians, as well as those needing gluten-free.

These hills are not only alive with the “Sound of Music” but with the tastes and temptations of Austria, too. Prost!
